Good Friday communion

Meager white cloth on modest wood.
Two tin vessels; cross-topped covers.
Two loaves of bread; cuplets of wine.

The minister steps down, invites.
We approach the table, silent.
"The bread... body; the wine... shed blood."

Take and eat, drink — and remember
The broken, bloody body of
Our Lord: for you, battered, shattered.
